Our property is a perfect base to discover the famous wonders this island has to offer.
Arugambay – one of the top ten surf destinations in the world, is approximately a 3-hour drive east. Yala National Park which lies south-east, is also a 3-hour drive away. And just two hours south-west is the beautiful Udawalawe National Park which has the largest concentration of wild elephants.
Located in the picturesque South Central Highlands of Sri Lanka and a mere 4.5-hour drive from the capital Colombo, HapuTales is situated in a little village known as Golconda in the lower Haputale area. The nearest train station, which is in Haputale, is only 15Km (30 minute drive) from us. The Haputale Railway Station is one of the oldest and most endearing stations because of its location and old-world charm which has remained unchanged for over a century. We can arrange pick up and drop off transfers for you, if required.
Perched at the southern edge of the Hill Country, the largely Tamil town of Haputale clings to a long, narrow mountain ridge with the land falling away steeply on both sides. On a clear day you can view the south coast from this ridge, and at night the Hambantota lighthouse pulses in the distance. On a not-so-clear day, great swaths of mist cling magnetically to the hillsides. Either way, you will be holidaying in one of the most spectacular and breathtaking regions of the country.
HapuTales is within easy reach of some of Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfalls, Horton Plains National Park, Stage 13 of the Pekoe Trail, Lipton’s Seat, the lively mountain town of Ella, and the Demodara Nine Arch Bridge. What’s more, we are also an easy stop on the scenic train route from Kandy to Ella.
We are 188km (115m) away from Colombo and can be accessed via the main A4 Highway through Ratnapura or via the E1 Expressway through Wellawaya. Our Villa is located a 5-minute drive off the main A4 artery, down a narrow carpeted by-road with scenic views.
