Our Story

Meet the owner

As the owner and host of HapuTales in Haputale, Sri Lanka, I made a life-changing decision a few years ago to transition from a corporate career to working towards creating a sustainable and eco-friendly home, away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo.

Having put down roots in the travel trade as well as Sri Lanka’s advertising industry, I moved to the US for higher studies in 2001. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Masters’ degree in Accounting, I worked at Ernst & Young before returning home to Sri Lanka in 2008.

My love for wildlife, nature and the outdoors made me visit the land on which the property stands, back in 2016. One look at the spectacular panoramic views, and I fell instantly in love! I then purchased the land and began construction soon after. Upon completing the main villa in 2020, I went on to build two more villas by 2023 based on my decision to transform my property into a tourist venture, so that visitors to our island paradise could enjoy the stunning, natural beauty of this area.

Living on-site most of the year, I take pleasure in developing my land and I have planted tea, coffee, spices and various fruit and flowering trees. I enjoy observing and studying the flourishing biodiversity that has evolved over time. Waking up to this beautiful vista every day whilst enjoying the fresh air and the peaceful environs brings me immense pleasure.

Being able to share the bounties of nature along with the warm hospitality and cozy comforts of my venture with my guests, is indeed a source of great joy and fulfillment to me.
